The Lightning had a pretty good level of intensity and matched Washington’s for 40 minutes, but it’s hard to get up to the same level of desperation when you’ve got nothing on the line and they’re clinging to playoff hopes by a fingernail. That’s especially true when you hand out 5-on-3 PP’s in the deciding frame. Worse, Nikita Kucherov failed to use the opportunity he had tonight to really build a big cushion in the scoring title race and even sew up the vaunted 100 assist plateau. Two home games remain for the club.

Mitchell Chaffee had 2 hits in 11:02.

Emil Lilleberg was -1 with 2 hits and 2 blocked shots in 19:29. He’s going to fall just shy of graduating from prospect status this season by about 4-5 games.
