Name: Jayson Shaugabay
Position: Center/Right Wing
Club: Warroad (USHS)/Green Bay (USHL)
Height/Weight: 5’9″ 165 lbs.
Shoots: Right

Ranking: 55th North American Skater (NHL Central Scouting), 121st Overall (Red Line Report)

Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey is a high-reward swing for the fences by the Lightning scouting staff. Tiny in stature at 5’9″ 165 lbs., there is near universal agreement in the scouting community that Shaugabay has first round caliber offensive skills with even his biggest detractors, Red Line Report, ranking him one of the most gifted goal scorers in this draft class. Shaugabay has a rep, warranted or not, for being a perimeter player who avoids the corners and is scared of physical contact. He won’t be able to play perimeter hockey in a top flight program like University of Minnesota-Duluth where he’s currently committed, so this may be something he grows out of. If he does, this pick may go down as a steal.
