NHL Game Night: 12-31-21 Rangers at Lightning

Read Time:1 Minute, 30 Second

Lightning finish (hopefully) Vasiy-less COVID stretch at .500.

NYR-4
TB-3 (SO)

Brian Elliott allowed three goals on 23 shots before allowing one of three to convert in the PS session for the SO loss. His two puckhandling gaffes out of his crease to allow cheap goals were obviously the margin between losing and a comfortable win tonight. Better than Lagace and Alnefelt? Absolutely. But you hate to see the Lightning lose a point in the standings because of those kind of silly mistakes.

Corey Perry and Steven Stamkos were the game’s second and third stars.

Annoying to lose the second point in a game where the Lightning pretty thoroughly outplayed the Rangers. On the other hand, if you offered me a point after last night’s farce in Sunrise, I might’ve taken it. Put it another way: Vasilevskiy is likely to come out of the protocol by the next game and the Lightning went 1-1-0-1 in his absence. .500 hockey from a points perspective. I can live with that under these crazy circumstances.

Boris Katchouk had 2 penalty minutes, 2 shots, and 2 hits in 8:17.

Darren Raddysh had 1 hit in 7:55.

Ross Colton had a goal, 4 shots, and 3 hits in 16:54. He was also 56% on 9 draws.

Gabriel Fortier had 1 shot and 1 hit in 6:32. They need to get him in the weight room some more.
