Gabriel Dumont was the game’s second star after scoring his 200th AHL goal. It’s been a challenging season for the captain, and he looked genuinely relieved to get that monkey off his back.
Credit to the team for not giving up and finding the false hope goal, but in yet another gotta-have-it game you don’t want to be in the impossible situation of being down three goals after 40 minutes. That’s a suicide mission more often than not, and it was again tonight.
Conor Geekie has 4-1-5 in his last four games and goals in three of the last four. In my opinion, the Lightning have two or three potentially impactful depth cards they could consider adding for the playoffs between Geekie, Max Crozier, and the anticipated signing of Issac Howard. Geekie’s playing with a lot of joy right now and he’s been Syracuse’s most influential player of late.
Glass half full: Cleveland lost to Texas again tonight so the Crunch managed to stay three back of the Monsters with a couple of games in hand. Glass half empty: Toronto and Belleville played a three point game. Toronto defeated the Senators in a SO, so the Crunch’s lead on the last playoff spot in the division over Belleville narrows to one point with one game in hand and Toronto is now five up on the Crunch with Syracuse holding a game in hand.
Tonight was the team’s now annual history night where they honored local amateur club the Syracuse Canal Mules. Subsequently, tonight is also my now annual appeal to make the switch to the Canal Mules name full time.
