The Lightning simply dug the hole too deep with the kill shot being Eichel’s late First Period goal to make it 3-0. Of all the things that make me hedge my bets on the Lightning’s postseason chances, their road mediocrity might be at the top of the list. The team is now one game under .500 away from Amalie this season, and that’s the single biggest reason they’re not ahead of Toronto and Sunrise right now as those teams each sit several games above .500 away from home ice. The Lightning have made Channelside one of the most daunting places to play in the NHL, but they’re a shadow of themselves away from home cooking.
