That was ugly, but I’ll take it. Detroit probably deserved better, but after a month or two of buzzard’s luck the Lightning finally got in a game where the goals seemed to be going in for them a lot easier than the opposition. Tonight’s effort isn’t a sustainable recipe getting outshot 37-18, but again, I’ll take it.
Dylan Duke had a goal and was +1 in his NHL debut with 1 shot and 2 hits in 7:38. He needs to work on his skating still and he was surprisingly weak along the wall, but he went to the messy area for a rebound goal that was absolutely the most important in the contest.
Gage Goncalves had a helper and was +1 with 1 hit in 12:37 again seeing time on the top line. It’s a mixed bag with Gonzo whose recent play has highlighted his vision and passing ability. But along the wall and defensively he’s still a bit of a liability. He absolutely got walked along the wall one on one by Kane in the Third Period and he was wildly lucky that play didn’t end up in the back of the net.
