AHL Game Night: 12-27-24 Crunch at Rocket

Big Crunch win in a usual house of horrors.

SYR-4
LAV-1

Matt Tomkins allowed one goal on 23 shots for the victory. Three of his last four appearances have been quality starts and he’s raised his season sv% above the goaltending Mendoza line to .901 for the season. I think the brief recall to Tampa may have been a nice little turning point for him, perhaps.

First Period
6:08 SYR Walcott (2), (Groshev, Pouliot)

Second Period
1:21 SYR Roelens (4), (Teasdale, Walford)
14:19 SYR Schmidt (2), (Carlile, Sheary)

Third Period
10:56 LAV Wotherspoon (1), (Roy, Harvey-Pinard)
12:08 SYR Finley (1), (Fortier, Crozier)

Daniel Walcott and Tomkins were the game’s first and second stars.

The biggest roster item of note tonight was the return of Max Crozier after about a month’s absence from action. Given how thin the Lightning are up top at RHD with the long term injury to Moser (the LHD who plays RHD) this potentially gives another recall option to the club. With Crozier’s return, BP favorite Dyllan Gill takes a seat in favor of very large human being Roman Schmidt who seems to really be adapting to the pro game well. He now has 2-2-4 and a gaudy +14 rating in 19 games this season.

These two teams face off again tomorrow afternoon as the Crunch continue a long climb out of the bottom quarter of a very stacked North Division.
