If I told you a healthy Lightning club went through this road swing 3-1-0 with the only loss being 2-1 to Edmonton you’d have taken it. If I told you they did it with half their d-corps nicked up and also guys like Cirelli missing time with injuries too… well… this road swing really highlights the team’s ultimate potential. The defensive structure the team’s forwards are playing is helping the d corps and goaltending and they’re very opportunistically turning defense into offense to close games out. That’s a solid recipe in hockey at any time, but especially once you get to the postseason.
Conor Geekie had 2 hits in 11:56.
Mitchell Chaffee had 1 shot in 13:17.
Declan Carlile had his first NHL goal and was +1 with 1 shot and 2 blocked shots in 11:10. Putting the late goal aside, I thought he looked less stiff than in his one game callup last season. Seemed more mobile and more comfortable with the speed of the game.
Emil Lilleberg was +1 with 2 penalty minutes, 1 shot, 3 hits, and 2 blocked shots in 21:35. They couldn’t have accomplished what they did on this swing without Hedman if it weren’t for Lilleberg handling the added responsibility well.
Gage Goncalves had 3 shots in 11:39.
