The built in excuses were there playing the backup goalie and missing Brayden Point for most of the game after departing with an apparent groin pull. Still, for the second night in a row, the Lightning were in a tied position in the Third Period (twice tonight) and failed to secure at least a point. This isn’t the same as the Lightning blowing leads last season, but it’s still something they need to clean up on their way to being a serious contender. They need to own Third Periods and they haven’t the past couple of games against, granted, very quality opponents.
Conor Geekie was -1 with 3 shots and 2 hits in 9:54. He was also 25% on four draws.
Mitchell Chaffee had a goal and was -1 with 3 shots in 16:17.
