Syracuse whiffs their divisional pursuit.

UTI-5
SYR-2

Brandon Halverson allowed four goals on 17 shots for the loss. What a time for him to finally have a subpar performance. The Crunch’s goaltending and the health and availability of their skaters have become big issues in the final two to three weeks of the campaign.

First Period
2:03 SYR Merela (15), (Bellerive)

Second Period
6:13 UTI Halonen (20), (Vilen, Russo)
7:22 UTI Stevens (5), (Hatakka, Legere)

Third Period
9:07 UTI Wendt (1), (Stevens, Vilen)
12:56 UTI Schmelzer (18), (Parent, Misyul)
14:03 SYR Crozier (4), (Merela, Stephens)
17:55 UTI Parent (15), (unassisted)(EN)

Waltteri Merela was the game’s second star.

The Crunch would’ve won the division with a single point at home against the non-playoff Comets, but instead slipped to third in the division in the final standings and a matchup against the Rochester Americans. Did they deliberately drop the division to avoid a matchup against the Belleville/Toronto play-in round? That’s the copium heavy interpretation of the game.
