Maxim Groshev and Mitchell Chaffee were the game’s first and second stars.

The Isles got the false hope goal but came no closer after Groshev completed his hat trick. Groshev’s haul for the day improves his season state line to 7-5-12 in his first 12 games. That’s good for third in the AHL in points among rookies and tied for second in goals.

The Crunch moved into a three-way tie atop the North Division with the victory, equaling Toronto and Rochester on 16 points through 12 games.
