You simply can’t fall into a 3-1 hole after 20 against the Atlantic’s best team and expect success. Plaudits for making a game of it, but they needed a better start tonight.

The good news is Utica lost in regulation to Belleville. The bad news is Rochester won versus Laval. So the Crunch sit two points back of Utica with two games in hand now, but the Americans lurk three points back of the third place Crunch. Top three seeds in the North Division get a first round bye with the second and third seeds facing each other in the second round. So a bye and home ice in the second round are still in Syracuse’s control with 15 regular season game left to play.
