Lightning repeatedly shoot themselves in foot to snatch defeat at the finish line.
Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed four goals on 41 shots for the loss to snap his personal winning streak. He couldn’t fix the stupid in front of him tonight.

Messed up game from top to bottom. The Lightning ended up icing something far from a first choice lineup with McDonagh and Cernak unavailable, meaning the team arguably only had two clear cut NHL defensemen in tonight. That was compounded by salary cap shenanigans that left Ross Colton on the taxi squad and the Lightning only dressing 11 forwards. It’s a mad, mad world where the day after you clear $700K off the books by trading Alex Volkov you still have to play a man short to balance the ledger. And then the last two goals the Lightning just played stupid. It’s bad enough getting outshot 41-27 by that team, but stupid turnovers and coverage lapses make it all the tougher to take. It’s clearly not indicative of the team Tampa Bay normally is, but it’s still a lousy outcome in a game they were in position to take at least a road point out of.
Cal Foote had a helper and was +1 with 2 shots, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 23:52. Needless to say, a career IT high for Mr. Foote.
