If there were any doubt in your mind how thin the Lightning are at RHD, the tape from today’s game should seal it for you. With Erik Cernak hurt early in the First Period the Lightning were put in dire straits with Jan Rutta and rookie Cal Foote having to take up the slack. You saw the results. Adding injury to injury was a nasty looking play that took Mitchell Stephens off in the Third Period and suddenly the Lightning are in a position where they may find themselves needing to make some roster moves.

Foote was -1 with 3 shots, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 15:29. If there’s a silver lining, at least he got some more ice time with which to get a little more comfortable with the NHL. He still is struggling with the speed, but was better moving the puck.

Stephens had a helper and was -1 with 1 shot, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 5:45. He was also 67% on 6 draws. I’m not optimistic about his injury given he couldn’t put weight on his leg and his history of getting hurt in juniors. My guess is that, if needed, the Lightning may bring up Ross Colton or Boo Nieves to fill the fourth line spot. Depending on how bad the injury is to Cernak, they could also go with more 11/7 for a while.

Alexander Volkov had a helper and was -1 in 8:57.
