Gage Goncalves was the game’s third star.
Groulx, somewhat as expected, went with his JV roster today. Rare appearances from the likes of Cajkovic, Semykin, and Tufto, for example. It was Cajkovic’s first AHL game since January, Semykin’s first since March, and also Tufto first since January.
Speaking of Groulx, there’s going to be some intrigue now with the Detroit job coming open. Benoit might be the front runner for that job. Also, the Lightning recalled Riley Nash today as a precaution with Brayden Point nicked up. It remains to be seen if he stays with Tampa for the playoffs, which would be a big blow to Syracuse’s championship hopes.
These two teams will meet in the conference semifinals with Syracuse still holding the two seed and home ice for this series. The North Division play in will be between Belleville and Rochester after the Americans squeaked in thanks to Toronto’s loss to the Senators today.
