Otto Somppi, Simon Ryfors, and Lagace were the game’s three stars. Somppi’s quietly riding a five game points streak, but this is his first multi-point night of the entire campaign. Ryfors had a solitary point in his prior 10 games before exploding for helpers in triplicate tonight. And, Gabriel Fortier was riding a five game slump of no points before getting 1-1-2 tonight. So, it was a different cast of characters tonight helping get Syracuse over the finish line.
On points, Syracuse moves to within two points of Rochester for second in the division with two games in hand. However, on points percentage, they sit in fifth behind Toronto, Laval, and Belleville, who all have a similar points percentage and several games in hand on Syracuse. So for the Crunch, who have a five game point streak going, to pull this move up the standings off, they have to keep putting the pressure on that group of three teams behind them by winning. Make them cash those games in hand or fall by the wayside.
