NHL Game Night: 3-4-21 Lightning at Blackhawks

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Lightning complete furious comeback with late OT buzzer beater.

TB-3
CHI-2 (OT)

Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed two goals on 37 shots for the OT victory. He got way too much work in this game as the team in front of him sleepwalked through 40 minutes of hockey. Without his heroics, they’d have been dead in the water.

Victor Hedman and Vasilevskiy were the game’s first and second stars.

Despite their improvement in the standings in the last month, it seems pretty clear to me that the Lightning took Chicago lightly for the first two frames of this game. They weren’t mentally locked in. Passes weren’t sharp. Guys were kind of one handing plays instead of bearing down. It took falling behind a couple of goals for the Lightning to start to focus and once they did the talent disparity started to show. Hopefully they learned their lesson with the rematch coming up in a hurry.

Cal Foote had 1 shot, 2 hits, and 2 blocked shots in 12:52. Had a quiet and efficient game in Cernak’s absence.

Alexander Volkov had 2 penalty minutes, 1 shot, and 1 blocked shot in 7:31.
