Gemel Smith and Declan Carlile were the game’s first and second stars. At the conclusion of the game, Alex Barre-Boulet and Darren Raddysh remained in first and second place in the AHL in scoring while Simon Ryfors moved into a tie for the top spot in the league in goals. Additionally, offseason free agent signing Ilya Usau notched his first AHL assist after coming up dry in his first 11 appearances of the campaign.

Anytime you fall behind by three or more goals after 40 minutes it’s usually a death sentence, and I’m going to venture a safe guess that the odds go down even further in games where you also allow your opponent to convert on the power play in four out of five tries. Syracuse’s locker room has to be flying high after not only getting the false hope goal and the real hope goal, but also pulling off the highly improbable victory in the shootout session. This is the the kind of win that can be a turning point for a team finding its footing. The Crunch are now one game under .500 for the campaign and riding a three game winning streak. Giddy. Up.
