Declan Carlile and Ilya Usau were the game’s second and third stars. Full marks to Usau, who is one of the youngest guys on the team along with Alnefelt and Thompson at 21 years old, stepping up and getting goals in each game of this critical home and home against Rochester. Meanwhile, 22 year old Declan Carlile continues to lead all rookies in +/- by a mile at +26 and has put together a very respectable campaign offensively at 7-16-23 through 65 games played. These games continue to grow in importance and every night it seems like another young prospect steps forward.

Syracuse formally clinched their playoff spot with the point tonight, but the big prize remains trying to stay out of the North Division fourth seed and a best-of-three opening round melee that the top three seeds will avoid with a bye. With Utica winning their game tonight, the Crunch have a one point edge on Rochester for second place and a two point edge on fourth place Utica. All three teams have four regular season games remaining. Syracuse has two more critical games left against Utica and two against Laval, which is clinging to a one point lead over Cleveland for the final playoff spot in the division. So, there are no pushovers in this schedule and every point is wildly precious right now.
