The Lightning escape a bit of a trap series against a young and hungry Chicago team getting five out of six points in the three game set. That’s the good news. Sleepy starts in two of the three games is a bit concerning, though. A little rash of injuries in the RHD corps is also a little concerning, although hopefully Cernak is out of the concussion protocol reasonably quickly after taking a head shot in this contest.
Cal Foote was -1 with 2 penalty minutes, 3 shots, 1 hit, and 1 blocked shot in 16:46. With Cernak in the locker room and Rutta already scratched, there was a healthy share of ice time for Foote in this game and I thought he handled it reasonably well. He’s played a calmer game as he gets more used to playing against NHL competition.
Alexander Volkov was -1 with 1 shot and 1 hit in 6:51. He nearly cost the Lightning a big goal in the Third Period whiffing on a hit along the wall where he stopped moving his feet and tried to coast into the opposing player. The Volkov boomlet we saw a couple of weeks ago has definitely faded.
