Koshechkin Does It Again

The legend continues to grow. Vasily Koshechkin pitched his seventh shutout in his last eleven starts today defeating Novokuznetsk 2-0. Koshechkin improved his record to 8-3-1 on the season. This shutout was in many ways more impressive than his previous six because Koshechkin now plays behind a gutted Lada team that dumped 3/4 of its payroll at the November trade period. For the Lokomotiv, Anton But scored his 8th goal of the season as Yaroslavl pummelled Chekhov 8-1. Dimitry Kazionov went scoreless in his first game for Moscow Dynamo as they defeated Molot Perm 2-0.

Polushin Scores In Severstal's First Game Back From Karjala Break

In yesterday's lone Superleague game, Alexander Polushin scored a first period game winning goal as Cherepovets topped SKA St. Petersburg 2-1. The goal was Polushin's 7th of the season.

Two Falcons on their way to Johnstown

According to a Springfield Falcons press release, the Falcons are reassigning defenseman Gerard Dicaire and goaltender Jonathan Boutin to ECHL Johnstown. Boutin's demotion is more a case of numbers than it is a reflection of his play.

Smolenak Returns to Kingston Lineup after Suspension

After missing two games, Radek Smolenak returned to the ice for Kingston against the Windsor Spitfires Thursday night. Smolenak had an assist for the Frontenacs, but it wasn't enough as they fell 3-2 in overtime. Smolenak was suspended for two games, punishment for a checking-from-behind major he earned last week. He was the only Lightning CHL prospect in action on this night.

Game Night 11/17: Islanders at Lightning

Welcome back Marty St. Louis... NYI-2 TB-3 Two straight solid games for John Grahame. He's starting to hit his stride as we move towards the mammoth show down in the Southeast with Carolina. Evgeny Artyukhin with an assist on the Lightning's second goal by Brad Richards. +1 in a sparing 6:54 of ice time. I was hoping Torts could get him out more against Campoli who is a smaller defenseman who looked clueless how to contain R2. Ranger with a quiet, efficient 17:37 of even hockey. Norrena Knuckles Up

The main attraction today was supposed to be a Karjala Cup rematch of netminders Stefan Liv and Fredrik Norrena. But what was supposed to be a demonstration of technical goaltending mastery unexpectedly turned ugly in a brawl marred 4-4 tie between Linkopings and HV-71. Shockingly, Norrena was given a major for fighting and a game misconduct for his involvement in a wild multi-player donnybrook that saw 103 minutes in penalties handed out at 3:47 in overtime on the heels of a tustle involving defenseman Andreas Holmqvist and Jens Karlsson just 7 seconds earlier. Norrena took a no decision as a consequence of his extracurriculars and will now await disciplinary action likely involving a multi-game suspension in the Elitserien. Fighting is rare enough in Sweden, fighting as a goaltender is unheard of and a goaltender going after a skater is an incredible happening on any continent.

Rogers Returns, Tobin Sits

Andy Rogers returned to the Prince George lineup after missing a game, and Mark Tobin missed his first game of the season for Rimouski in another Oceanic loss. No information has been made available as of yet as to why Tobin was scratched. As of the middle of the third period, Rogers had not recorded a point for the Cougars, who were losing 4-0 to Lethbridge. Rimouski lost 8-6 to Victoriaville. Stan Lascek was in action for Chicoutimi tonight and extended his lead over Maxime Boisclair for the QMJHL scoring title to four points with a goal and two assists. The Sagueneens beat Baie-Comeau 6-3.

Updated Statistics for Lightning Prospects in Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland

Because the most important young prospects in the Lightning's system in Europe are generally found in Finland, Russia and Sweden, Bolt Prospects doesn't run daily reports from some of the other leagues on the continent. This post is to update the progress of prospects in the Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland:

Soucy Suspended by ECHL

Jean-Francois Soucy has been suspended for one game, which will be served Friday. The LW/C was given an instigator penalty in the final 5 minutes of Phoenix's last game, an automatic suspension by league rules. The exhiled former Springfield Falcon has 0 goals and 6 assists in 11 games this season with a -3 rating and a team leading 56 penalty minutes. Phoenix (3-6-2) currently sits in last place of the Western Division of the ECHL's National Conference.

Meanwhile, for Togliatti, Vasily Koshechkin allowed two third period goals to fall to 7-3-1 on the season losing to Novosibirsk 2-0. In Moscow, where Dynamo fell to CSKA 6-3, Dimitry Kazionov did not dress for his new club. Albert Vishnyakov was scoreless in the tilt.
