Holmqvist Notches First Point of Elitserien Season

Andreas Holmqvist was moved from the fourth pairing to the top pairing today for Linkopings and responded by notching his first point of the season, an assist on Tim Eriksson's second period goal. Fredrik Norrena stopped 38 of 41 shots faced as Linkopings defeated Leksands 4-3 to stay undefeated for the season. Through four games now Norrena is 4-0-0 with a 1.75 GAA and a .942 save percentage. Linkopings currently sits in first place on the Swedish Elitserien table.

CHL Weekend Wrap-up

Leading Lightning prospects this past weekend were Chicoutimi winger Stanislav Lascek and Moose Jaw center Blair Jones, both with first-star efforts. Individual reports and stats include:

Lightning/Rogers Face Monday Signing Deadline

According to Erik Erlendsson of the Trib, the Lightning are currently in contract negotiations with 19 year old defenseman Andy Rogers. The deadline to sign Rogers will be at 5pm Monday otherwise Rogers will have to be returned to his junior team, Prince George of the WHL. The mere fact that the Lightning are seriously discussing a contract with Rogers is likely an indication the club is favoring the blueliner over his competitor Timo Helbling. However, nothing is set in stone, and the team could still return Rogers to junior within 10 NHL games played.

Game Day 10/2: Wolfpack at Falcons (Exhibition)

Today's game represents one last chance to impress for bubble players looking to avoid reassignment to Johnstown of the ECHL. Among the players possibly in danger of missing the cut are: Morgan Cey, Zbynek Hrdel, J.F. Soucy, Brandon Elliot, Gerald Coleman and Dennis Packard. On a personal note, I'm plunking down the $6 for B2 Network's cybercast. Pretty good quality thus far. Looks like Eklund starting with Coleman backing up. Recap from Falconsahl.com is up. HFD-4 SPR-5 (Final-OT) 1st Period 1. Hartford- Giroux, (Genoway) The Falcons are getting dominated at even strength by the Wolfpack, and that was especially so early in the period. Wolfpack took a handful of penalties that helped the Falcons get their legs, and although the power play looked decent and generated some chances the Falcons squandered a 5-on-3 and some other opportunities. 2nd Period 2. Hartford- Dawes, (Baranka, Tselios) 3. Springfield- Henrich, (Reid, Rohloff) 4. Springfield- Jaspers, (Deveaux, Craig) 5. Springfield- Greco, (Milley, Campbell) 6. Hartford- Sparre

Game Day 10/2: Lightning at Panthers (Exhibition)

I'd rather have Luongo burn a performance like this in the preseason rather than when the bullets are real. Timo Helbling gets his last chance to impress today before the final cut. TB-0 FLA-4 (Final) 1st Period 1. Florida- Hagman, (Gratton) (SH) 2nd Period 2. Florida- Huselius, (Olesz) 3rd Period 3. Florida- Hagman, (Huselius, Gratton) 4. Florida- Horton, (Weiss) (PP) Loss: John Grahame, 17/21 (2/2) Shootout TB-2 FLA-0 1. Richards (0) 2. St. Louis (X) 3. Lecavalier (X) And the preseason mercifully comes to a conclusion.
