Bolts Sign Sarich, Avoid Arbitration is reporting the Lightning have re-signed defenseman Cory Sarich to a one-year, $1.9 million contract. The deal allows the Lightning and Sarich to avoid a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for July 31. Tampa Bay General Manager Jay Feaster stated in the official press release that Sarich left some money on the table in order to fit into the team's stretched financial structure. Sarich, 27, a 6-foot-3, 204-pound native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan played in all 82 games for the third consecutive season in 2005-06, recording a goal, 14 assists and 79 penalty minutes. In 2003-04 he was one of three defensemen to appear in all 23 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Lightning.

Erik Erlendsson Blogs Prospect Camp

Echoing many of the sentiments of Bolt Prospects blog writers today, Erik Erlendsson of the Trib has posted some of his comments on the first day of prospect camp. In general, there were some very positive notes made by Erik today:

Day 1 Prospect Camp Scoring summary

Add Kevin Croxton to the Black roster he rotated the bottom 2 lines. Mark Tobin was not there/nor listed on the Lightning issued roster. Brady Greco listed on Lightning roster, was not dressed. Black scored the 1st 4 White got 1 late 1. Croxton (unassisted) Mihalik skipped a too hard - too bouncy pass across Grover's stick. Croxton picked it up at the blue line and took it in on Beech who stayed deep in his net. 2. Boisclair, Desharnais primary, ??? Basically 2-on-0 down low following a turnover vs Disher. 3. Kvapil, Robinson, ??? Nice finish in close vs. Disher. Robinson passed it in from the opposite circle.

Mark Tobin Added to Tryout Roster

According to Erik Erlendsson and the Tampa Tribune, Mark Tobin has been added to the roster for this week's prospect and tryout camp. Erlendsson confirmed to Bolt Prospects that Tobin was on the latest roster the Tribune received last week. Tobin was not on an earlier list provided by the Lightning. Mercyhurst's Dave Borrelli was on the first list, but does not appear on the most recent list. Tobin, a second round pick of the Bolts in 2004, was not signed by the Lightning this summer and allowed to re-enter the draft. He was not selected. According to General Manager Jay Feaster, the club tried to sign Tobin in the summer of 2005, but Tobin and his agent rejected the Lightning's final offer and talks never resumed. In 2005-2006, the 6-3, 211-pound Tobin recorded a career high 26 goals for the last place Rimouski Oceanic. He also surpassed his career high in points, by one, with 51 points in 67 games. Tobin was among the QMJHL's hit leaders, but also led the league in minus rating with a -51. The Lightning concluded that Tobin's upside was not significant enough to warrant another contract offer at season's end.
