Game Night 1/28: Bruins at Falcons

Compared to the shellings the Falcons have endured this year against Providence, tonight was a positive sign. PRO-4 SPR-3 (SO) Gerald Coleman stopped 36 of 39 before losing in the shootout. Travis Brigley scored his first goal as a Falcon and added an assist. Marek Kvapil also had a goal and Jay Rosehill scored his first professional goal. The Falcons came within 29 seconds of victory, but Coleman couldn't quite shut the door. Gerard Dicaire's point streak was stopped at 4, but he did finish second on the team in shots behind Brigley with 4 tries on net. Game Day 1/28: Lightning at Flyers

How satifying was that to watch? TB-6 PHI-0 Sean Burke made a 38 save shutout look all to easy. The Lightning were paced by a Fredrik Modin hat trick that included 2 deflection goals on the power play. Lightning youngsters Craig, Artyukhin and Ranger all pointed. Artyukhin drove to the net off a Ryan Craig breakout pass using his speed around the corner to generate an easy rebound chance for a Dan Boyle goal. Craig later added a quick snap shot goal off the wing from the left circle in the third period with the secondary assist going to Paul Ranger. With Darryl Sydor leaving the game in the second period after taking a puck to the chin, Ranger was forced to play 21:38 in the game. He played well defensively turning in a +2 performance with 1 shot and 2 blocked shots. Ryan Craig was also +2 in 11:11 of ice time with 3 shots on goal in third period garbage time. Evgeny Artyukhin again played a sparing 4:19 with just 7 shifts on the game and 2 shots on goal. His role in setting up Dan Boyle's opening goal, however, was indispensible. Coach Anzalone: Falcons Will Trade One of Their Goaltenders, Greco Out For Season

In an interview with Mike Mastovich of the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat published Friday, Chiefs Head Coach Frank Anzalone dropped the bombshell that Jonathan Boutin's recall is due to the impending trade of one of Springfield's goaltenders. Anzalone goes on to point out that the Chiefs only had 14 players on their roster as of Thursday night and that Lightning prospect Brady Greco will be gone for the rest of the season with shoulder surgery. Anzalone speculates that the many callups Springfield has made recently will be in the AHL to stay and that the Lightning organization feels that Boutin is ready for the AHL level for good. In order to fill their need for a netminder before Friday's game against Dayton, the Chiefs signed emergency backup Craig Rehodge.
