(OHL Release) The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Kingston Frontenacs forward Radek Smolenak is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday March 12 after scoring six goals and eight points in three games last week. Smolenak started the week with two goals in a 5-4 win over the Mississauga IceDogs on March 8. He added a goal in a 5-2 win over the Barrie Colts on March 10 and was the first star after scoring two goals and three assists in a 6-4 win over the Toronto St. Michael's Majors on March 12. The three-win weekend clinched home ice advantage for the Frontenacs in the first round of the OHL playoffs.

Old man Burke gives an old skool lesson to Les Canadiens. TB-2 MTL-1 Sean Burke stopped 31 of 32 shots he faced. Ryan Craig was even in 15:13 with 3 shots on goal, 2 hits and 3 blocked shots. Paul Ranger played 15:09 with 1 shot on goal, 1 hit and 2 blocked shots. Evgeny Artyukhin laid out 5 hits in 9:10. If ever a team needed a win, the Lightning needed this one. How do you say "en fuego" in Czech? Zdenek Blatny today [url=http://www.theahl.com/AHL/News/PlayerOfTheWeek/2006/03/13/1485850.html]was named AHL player of the week.[/url] Blatny had 4 goals and 9 points in 4 games last week for the Falcons.

Avanagard Omsk defeated SKA St. Petersburg 3-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Nikita Alexeev was a scratch for the contest. Anton But recorded an assist as Yaroslavl squeaked past Novosibirsk to take a 1-0 lead in their opening round series. Vasily Koshechkin and Ladas Togliatti shut out Moscow Dynamo 3-0 in the opening game of their series. Dimitry Kazionov and Albert Vishnyakov were in the lineup for Dynamo. Alexei Glukhov had 2 penalty minutes in Khimik's 3-1 loss to Nizhnekamsk. Alexander Polushin was a scratch as Cherepovets waffled CSKA 5-0 to take a 1-0 series lead.
