There have been a lot of questions surrounding goaltending prospect Jonathan Boutin in the last week or so.
Eyebrows were first raised roughly a week ago when Boutin, a 2003 third round pick who was named AHL Goaltender of the Month last December for AHL Springfield, was demoted to ECHL Mississippi and Ryan Munce was named the backup netminder in Norfolk.
Just a few days and one Admirals regular season game later, it was learned Ramo would miss 3-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain, opening the door for Boutin's return.
However, eyebrows were raised even higher when Morgan Cey was named to the Admirals roster instead of Boutin, who was thought to be a sure-thing for Norfolk going into the season.
(Norfolk Admirals release)
Today, Norfolk Admirals General Manager Claude Loiselle announced that goaltender Karri Ramo has suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out three to four weeks. Subsequently, the Admirals have recalled goaltender Morgan Cey from the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL).
Johan Harju had two power play goals as Lulea defeated Skelleftea 3-1. That's five goals in the last four games now for Big Joe. He is now tied for third in the Eliserien in goals, three back of leader Mattias Weinhandl.
After two periods Andreas Holmqvist was scoreless in Frolunda's 4-2 win over MODO.
Albert Vishnyakov did not play in Spartak's 2-1 shootout loss to Nizhnekamsk.
Alexei Glukhov had a goal in Cherepovets' 3-2 shootout victory over Tver.
It's going to be extremely difficult for Torrie Jung to get back between the Kelowna pipes any time soon.
Calgary Hitmen 0 @ Kelowna Rockets 5
G Torrie Jung, KEL: Did Not Play
Jung's competition in the Rocket's net, Kristofer Westblom, won his third straight game in his third straight start. All he did this time was shut out the Canadian Hockey League's top-ranked team, the Calgary Hitmen. Westblom stopped 28 shots in the win, earning first star honors.
Westblom and Jung began the year alternating, but the overager Westblom appears to have secured the No.1 job. This could put an end to the constant Westblom trade speculation, according to Kelowna broadcaster Regan Bartel, as the club has two of the best netminders in the conference and Bartel thinks the Rockets could be just as solid keeping both goalies. While this would be fine for Kelowna, and certainly no one would point a finger at them for it, we're looking at it from a developmental perspective and Jung will be missing valuable playing time.
