In an exciting game aired on CSTV, Michigan erased a 2-0 deficit against No.8 Notre Dame and earned a last minute win when Ottawa Senators third rounder (2007) Louie Caporusso banged in a loose puck from the side of the net with 20 seconds left. The goal came shortly after an offensive zone faceoff, which featured Kevin Quick on the right point. The Irish won the faceoff, but the Wolverine forecheck caused a turnover and an eventual goal.

Quick was on the ice for the Irish’s first goal, so he ended up even for the game. He had a few nice rushes and seems to be playing with a lot of confidence.

Michigan was swept 3-0 by Notre Dame last year.

Quick Does It Again

No.1 Michigan 5 @ Western Michigan 1
D Kevin Quick, UM: 1-0-1, E, 1 shot on goal

A night after notching his first collegiate goal, Quick nets No.2.

According to USCHO, Quick received the puck from junior Travis Turnbull on the left side of the crease and was able to draw Gill out from the pipes, knocking it into the back of the net for a power play goal.

Phoenix Coyote seventh rounder Chad Kolarik (Abington, PA) had four goals for No.1 Michigan. The Wolverines swept WMU 2-0 over the weekend series.

Quick Nets First NCAA Goal

NCAA Game Night: 1/11

Western Michigan 1 @ No.1 Michigan 6
D Kevin Quick, UM: 1-0-1, +2, 1 shot on goal

Quick’s goal, the first of his young collegiate career, came 36 seconds into the second period. The freshman took a pass at the right face-off circle and wristed the puck past WMU goaltender Riley Gill.

“Chad (Kolarik) passed me the puck and it was a great pass,” Quick said in a USCHO game recap. “I kind of froze. I wanted to pass, but I saw an opening so I shot it.”

There are conflicting reports as to how he scored. One Michigan site says it went over Gill’s glove, a WMU site says it went 5-hole, and the USCHO recap says it was under Gill’s stick. Any which way, it hit the back of the net – so congrats to Quick for his first collegiate goal.

No.1 Michigan improved to 19-2-0 on the year. Quick has a goal and an assist on the year (16 games).
