AHL Game Day 3/4: Falcons at Sharks

The streak is over. Falcons win.

WOR-2 (SO)

Karri Ramo stopped 25 of 27 shots faced in regulation and overtime before stopping a perfect 8 of 8 penalty shots for the shootout victory. For Ramo, who went 0 for February in the win department, it was his first victory since January 19th at Providence. David Spina had a pair of assists in the game while Adam Henrich and PJ Atherton (slipping nicely through a Clear Day loophole) scored Springfield's goals. Matt Smaby and Andy Rogers, freshly dried from a dip in Springfield Republican beat writer Fran Sypek's vitriol, each had primary assists in the game. Daniel Corso, who scored the winning shootout goal, was named first star of the game while Spina took third star honors.

The win breaks the Falcons' 8 game winless streak. Interesting takeaway stats from the game: the Falcons outshot the Sharks 31-27 partly on the strength of Atherton's team high 5 shots on goal. I know someone who wants a contract.

Newly acquired Nick Kuiper was +1 in the game. Joe Rullier did not suit up for the Falcons.

Springfield Recalls Three from Johnstown

The Springfield Falcons announced today that forwards Radek Smolenak, Stanislav Lascek and defenseman P.J. Atherton have been recalled from their ECHL affiliate, the Johnstown Chiefs.

ECHL Game Day 2/18: Titans at Chiefs

Adam Henrich is on fire.

Morgan Cey stopped 29 of 31 shots faced for the victory. [url=adam-Henrich once again led the way offensively with a pair of goals. Jean Desrochers had the game winning goal and individual helpers belonged to Ian MacLean, Maxime Boisclair, Zbynek Hrdel, Andrew Martens and PJ Atherton. Henrich, Desrochers and Cey were the game's three stars.

In six games since being returned to Johnstown from Springfield of the AHL, Henrich has 7 goals, 12 points and a +7 rating. Given the Falcons' offensive woes, at some point Henrich is probably going to earn another recall soon.

ECHL Game Night 1/5: Chiefs at Gladiators

Morgan Cey had to face 70 shots tonight between regulation, overtime and the shootout. 70.

GWT-4 (SO)

Morgan Cey stopped 59 of 62 shots faced in overtime and regulation before allowing 2 of 8 penalty shot chances to take the shootout loss. Have mercy. Andre Deveaux led the Falcons with 2 goals and 1 assist while Radek Smolenak had 1 goal and 2 assists. Adam Henrich, Geoff Waugh and PJ Atherton had individual assists. Gwinnett tallied the tying goal on the power play with under 2 minutes to go in regulation to force overtime. Naturally, Gwinnett, being the organization and county in Georgia with the utmost of humility and class (that's sarcasm) did not give a single star in the game to a Johnstown player even though Deveaux and Smolenak had the game high in points and Cey stopped 59 shots. Considering the media pool for Gwinnett includes a certain massive Thrashers homer/online editor for HF, I'm not surprised.

Some good news from the night: Gerald Coleman is on the bus for this swing through the south and was in uniform as Cey's backup.

As a result of today's trade of prospect Darren Reid, Bolt Prospects' staff has decided to update our rankings to reflect the departure. As a consequence, a new 25th prospect had to be named, and Bolt Prospects is pleased to announce PJ Atherton has made the list for the first time in his career.

Bolt Prospects plans to release its Midterm Rankings, a full and comprehensive update, some time after the U20 World Junior Championships conclude in January.

ECHL Game Night 10/21: Ice Pilots at Chiefs

Tonight is the season opener for a Johnstown team that has had an almost complete identity overhaul in the offseason. Gone are former GM Toby O'Brien as well as many of the familiar ECHL veterans who used to make up the team. In their place the Lightning have set up a new management team and a revamped roster that includes much more youth, skill and speed. Coach Frank Anzalone is the constant, and the veteran coach will go for his 300th ECHL win tonight. Stanislav Lascek and Radek Smolenak should form a potent offensive attack for the Chiefs and they are expected to get strong goaltending from Gerald Coleman and Morgan Cey, but it's the progress of the team's defensemen that may decide how much it can improve over last season's short playoff run. PEN-2 JHN-5 Congratulations to Coach Anzalone on his 300th ECHL win. Morgan Cey stopped 31 of 33 for the win. Veteran Jean Desrochers had a first period natural hat trick to set the pace for the Chiefs. Doug Andress had a goal and two assists while Zbynek Hrdel racked up three assists. Doug Adams had two assists and Radek Smolenak added his first professional goal while individual helpers went to PJ Atherton, Stanislav Lascek and Brandon Elliot. And that's just game one. Game sheet from .

Gerald Coleman got the win before giving way to Morgan Cey who allowed all three Nailers goals.
