Strong nights for Helenius, Crowley, and Tyrell in leading their respective teams to wins.
Game results on the flip.
Brandon Wheat Kings 5 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 2
C Mitch Fadden, LET: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
After a five game point streak to start the season, Fadden has gone two games with no points. He was slated to move off of a line with 06-07 91-point scorer Zach Boychuk and onto a line with Yashar Farmanara, who came to Lethbridge with Fadden from Seattle two seasons ago. Boychuk and Fadden both have 9 points this year.
Everett Silvertips 5 @ Portland Winter Hawks 3
D Dane Crowley, EVT: 0-0-0, E, 6 PIM
Everett and Portland traded road wins to start the weekend. Crowley had minor and double-minor penalties for roughing.
Swift Current Broncos 6 @ Prince George Cougars 1
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
The Cougars are now 1-5-0-0 on the year and get to play WHL powerhouse Calgary Sunday.
Helenius got his first night-off of the season as Seattle, somewhat remarkably, lost their 12th shootout in a row.
Helenius and Seattle got the better of Jung and Kelowna in the first of a home-and-home set between the Thunderbirds and Rockets. The teams play again tonight (Saturday) in Seattle. Helenius's 1.62 Goals Against Average is tops in the WHL among goalies playing more than one game. His .922 save percentage is top-5.
Tri-City Americans 2 @ Prince George Cougars 5
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-3-3, E, 0 PIM, *Second Star*
The Cougars got revenge on the Americans by winning the second of a back-to-back set in Prince George. The victory was their first of the year after four losses. Tyrell has six points (two goals) in three games since returning from the Norfolk Admirals' AHL camp.
Spokane Chiefs 0 @ Everett Silvertips 4
D Dane Crowley, EVT: Did Not Play
Everett won their first game of the season, and like Prince George, the win came after four losses. Crowley did not play as he was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan due to a death in the family. The Tips released one of their six overagers yesterday, but that still leaves five fighting for three allowed spots. Crowley is one of those five remaining.
Swift Current Broncos 3 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 1
C Mitch Fadden, LET: 0-0-0, -1, 0 PIM
Fadden saw his five game point streak to start the season come to an end. Lethbridge outshot the Broncos 28-19.
Tri-City Americans 5 @ Prince George Cougars 2
C Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-0-0, -4, 2 PIM
Tyrell tied for the team’s worst plus/minus rating at minus-4, but the Prince George Citizen called Tyrell the Cougars' unquestioned leader during the game, continually taking pucks to the net. Dana Tyrell’s younger brother, Corey, scored his second goal of the season in the loss for Prince George. Traverse City Lightning free agent Colton Yellow Horn had a goal, an assist, was a plus-3, and was named Third Star for Tri-City.
Kootenay Ice 5 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 4
C Mitch Fadden, LET: 2-1-3, +3, 0 PIM, *First Star*
Fadden scored the game’s first two goals but Lethbridge blew a 4-0 lead late. Fadden is 3-2-5 in 3 games to start the year.
Kelowna was badly outshot, 35-21. Crowley had a power play assist in his 2007-2008 debut for Everett.
Lewiston MAINEiacs 2 @ Halifax Mooseheads 3
D Michael Ward, LEW: 0-1-1, E, 2 PIM, 1 SOG
Ward’s assist came on the power play. I watched the third period of this game on Teles, and Ward played significant minutes, including PP, PK, and was on the ice at the end of the game with the goalie pulled. He also had a good rush and two solid hits in the third. Several Q games appear to be available to view for free via www.lhjmq.qc.ca.
Cowichan Valley Capitals 5 @ Victoria Grizzlies 2
W Justin Courtnall, VIC: 0-1-1, 0 PIM
Courtnall has one goal and three assists in seven games so far this season for the 1-3-1(ties)-2 (OTL) Grizzlies.
On Sunday at the Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex in Chesapeake, Radek Smolenak scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals to propel Team White past Team Blue 6-4 in the Admirals’ annual Blue vs. White intra-squad scrimmage game.
Boxscore (Team, Period/Time, Scorer, Assists):
1. BLUE 1/5:38 Rob Klinkhammer (Unassisted)
2. WHITE 1/9:40 Stan Lascek (Unassisted)
3. WHITE 1/10:14 Matt Radoslovich (Lance Monych, Vladimir Mihalik)

8. WHITE 3/7:58 Justin Keller (Brandon Elliott)
9. BLUE 3/16:24 Dana Tyrell (Unassisted) (Shorthanded)
10. WHITE 3/19:17 Justin Keller (Justin Taylor)

As the countdown to the start of the 2007 Traverse City (TC) Prospects Tournament finally comes to an end tomorrow, the future is now for many of the prospects making up the Lightning’s 2007 TC squad.
Kelowna Rockets goaltender Torrie Jung had the "honor" of taking the loss for the first win by the WHL expansion Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oil Kings defeated Jung and the Rockets 4-3 Saturday during the Oil Kings Preseason Invitation in the the Edmonton area. Jung, who did not start the game for Kelowna, allowed two goals on 15 shots, including a breakaway goal.
Seattle fell to Everett 4-1 in Day 2 of Everett's Preseason Tournament, but Riku Helenius did not play for Seattle and Dane Crowley did not hit the scoresheet for Everett, who dressed more veterans this game.
