Crowley, Dane

CHL Game Night: 1/24

Break up the Otters.

Kevin Beech stopped 39 shots in regulation and overtime, then both of Guelph's shootout attempts to give the Erie Otters a 4-3 shootout win over the Storm. This is second straight victory (and third in the last four games) for the Otters, who improve to 12-32-1-2 on the season. Despite only being acquired 3 weeks ago, Beech now has one-quarter of the Otters wins on the year (3-1-1). This is the second straight shootout win for Erie over Guelph, who is 23-15-2-7 for the year.

Beech earned first star honors for the game, but it could be said he truly earned it in the third period, when the Otters were outshot 15-8, and overtime, when he turned aside 5 more shots. In all, the Otters were outshot 42-29 for the game.

In the WHL, Dane Crowley returned to the Everett lineup after missing two games with the flu and extended his goal-scoring streak to three games as Everett topped Portland 5-3 in Everett. Crowley scored the eventual game winner at the 14:32 mark of the third period. He was also plus-1 for the game. Crowley is 3-1-4 and plus-5 in 4 games with the WHL's top team, Everett. He was 4-15-19 and minus-2 in 33 games with Swift Current.

CHL Game Night: 1/21

Marek Bartanus's cold streak continued Sunday, as the winger failed to hit the scoresheet for Owen Sound in the Attack's 3-2 home win over Saginaw. Bartanus has not registered a point in nine straight games. Since his four assist game on November 3 (23 games ago), Bartanus has only one goal (11/22/06) and one assist (12/06/06). This, after he started the year with points in five straight games and in eight of his first ten.

The Erie Otters won for the second time in three games (a huge accomplishment for the Otters), beating the Storm in Guelph, 6-5 in a shootout. Kevin Beech was back in net for the Otters, stopping 47 of 52 shots in regulation and 1 of 2 shootout attempts. In six games with Erie, Beech has a 2-1-1 record with a GAA of 4.32 and a save percentage of .886.

The Everett Silvertips got the better of their rivals, the Vancouver Giants, for the fourth time this year, winning 6-5 in a shootout. Dane Crowley missed his second consecutive game for the Tips with the flu. Everett (36-7-0-2) is now 4-0 this season against Vancouver (30-10-3-5), the team that swept the Tips out of the playoffs last season. Though Everett is 4-0, two games were won in shootouts and one in overtime.

CHL Game Night: 1/20

I smell the heavy scent of BP Prospect of the Week consideration.

Chris Lawrence had 2 more goals and an assist Saturday night as Mississauga crushed Kevin Beech and Erie 9-3. Lawrence was also plus-2 and was named the game's second star. For all those keeping track, Lawrence has 7 goals and 2 assists this week, with a plus-6 rating. After a rough road trip last week, Mississauga has scored 21 goals in 3 games this week, giving up 6. As for Beech, after two straight solid outings, he was pulled midway through the first period when he gave up 3 goals on 6 shots.

Marek Bartanus and Owen Sound defeated Guelph 2-1 in Owen Sound. Bartanus was even and didn't register a point.

In the WHL, Everett fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Tri-City Americans. Dane Crowley missed the game with the flu.

Prince George shutout Chilliwack for the second consecutive night. Vladimir Mihalik was scoreless and even, but did have a fighting major. Mihalik took on Donnie Glennie, who's listed at 5'10". Mihalik, of course, is 6'8". (I haven't been able to find fight details as of yet.)

CHL Game Night 1/19: The Chris Lawrence Show - Encore

Chris Lawrence continued his hot streak with a natural hattrick in Mississauga's 7-2 win over the Barrie Colts. Lawrence scored three straight goals in just over 7 minutes of the third period to break the game open, including his first two just 8 seconds apart. He was also plus-2 with 4 PIM. Lawrence now has 30 goals on the year. For the second consecutive game he was named the game's first star.

Kevin Beech won his first game with Erie, stopping 29 of 32 shots to help the Otters defeat Toronto St. Mike's 4-3. This was just the 10th win of the year for Erie.

Marek Bartanus and the Owen Sound Attack were shutout by Guelph 5-0. Bartanus was minus-1.

Vladimir Mihalik scored his fourth of the year to help Prince George to a 4-0 shutout win over Chilliwack. Mihalik was even in the game.

Dane Crowley and Everett shut down Vancouver 4-2 in Everett. Crowley scored his sixth goal of the year and now has a 2-game goal streak. He was also plus-1. Crowley was named the game's third star.

CHL Game Night: 1/13 (Updated)

Marek Bartanus again failed to hit the scoresheet, but Owen Sound defeated Ottawa 3-2. Bartanus was minus-1 in the game.

Kevin Beech got his second start in as many nights and turned in a superb performance, but the Otters ended up losing 2-1 in overtime to Guelph. The Storm outshot Erie and Beech 37-23. Beech's 35 saves earned him the game's first star award.

In the WHL, Dane Crowley and Everett beat Portland 5-2. Crowley scored his first goal as a Silvertip - his fifth of the season. He was also plus-3.

In Kamloops, the Prince George Cougars lost to Kamloops 6-0. Vladimir Mihalik was not in the Cougars' lineup. Mihalik is with the team, having flown to Kelowna from Slovakia to meet his teammates, but he has not been able to play because his equipment has not yet arrived.
