With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM

DeCoste’s point streak is now at four games.

Barrie Colts 6 @ Niagara IceDogs 1
LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 30 GP, 18-20-38, +17, 22 PIM

Hutchings scored his fourth shorthanded goal in the last three games, extending his goal-scoring streak to seven games and has point streak to eight. He has eight points in his last three games and likely has a Player of the Week award in his immediate future. Barrie is on a 17 game win streak.

Sarnia Sting 2 @ Erie Otters 3 (SO)
G Jaroslav Janus, ERIE: Did not play.
Season Totals: 7 GP, 4-2-1-0, 2.93 GAA, .915 sv%
With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%

Janus served as the backup to Ramis Sadikov (2010 draft) as he continues to battle injuries. Shane Owen, Erie’s third goaltender, was let go recently upon Janus’ (re)arrival to the club from AHL Norfolk. Owen, 19, passed through OHL waivers unclaimed and has since signed with the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats, home of Lightning prospect Mark Barberio. Owen went 3-6-2, 4.31, .880 for Erie in Janus’ absence.

Windsor Spitfires 9 @ Peterborough Petes 5
C Richard Panik, WSR: 0-1-1, E, 7 PIM (roughing, fighting)
Season Totals: 29 GP, 7-9-16, +13, 19 PIM

Panik (pictured) tangled with Petes defenseman Chris Buonomo (2010) in his first OHL fight. Panik got in several rights before dropping him with a left (watch it here). Windsor now has at least a point in 21 straight games. At 25-3-0-3 they remain on a collision course with Barrie (25-4-0-1) for the OHL championship this spring. They play each other for the first time in the regular season on January 14.

With Bulls: 10 GP, 3-4-7, +3, 2 PIM
With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM

Defenseman Shawn Lalonde (Blackhawks 3/2008) scored the game winner late in the third period. DeCoste’s goal briefly gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead early in the third.

Barrie Colts 5 @ Mississauga-St. Michael’s Majors 2
LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 1-0-1, +1, 2 PIM (diving)
Season Totals: 26 GP, 13-16-29, +11, 16 PIM

Season Totals: 7 GP, 4-2-1-0, 2.93 GAA, .915 sv%
With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%

Janus, who reportedly has been battling “bumps and bruises” since returning to the OHL from Norfolk, did not make the trip to Guelph. He left the Otters’ previous game in the third period with an apparent leg injury.

Peterborough Petes 2 @ Windsor Spitfires 3 (SO)
C Richard Panik, WSR: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Season Totals: 27 GP, 7-8-15, +13, 8 PIM

Panik (pictured), who hit a post during the game, did not participate in the shootout. This was his second Third Star of the season. Windsor, the top-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League, has at least a point in 19 straight games (17-0-0-2).

Owen Sound Attack 4 @ Sudbury Wolves 2
LW Matais Sointu, OTT: 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM (interference)
Season Totals: 22 GP, 3-7-10, +5, 8 PIM
With Sudbury: 1 GP, 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM
With Ottawa: 21 GP, 3-7-10, +7, 6 PIM

Sointu made his debut for Sudbury after coming over in a trade from Ottawa earlier in the week. The CHL import is wearing No.28 with the Wolves, with whom he is expected to get more ice time.

Oshawa Generals 3 @ Ottawa 67’s 6

Season Totals: 19 GP, 7-10-2-0, 3.48 GAA, .893 sv%, 1 SO

RW Carter Ashton, LET: 1-0-1, E, 2 PIM (tripping)
Season Totals: 24 GP, 13-12-25, -6, 46 PIM

The Hurricanes held a 2-0 lead in this game before watching that lead disappear. Ashton, Lethbridge’s fourth shooter, had his shootout attempt saved.

CHL Game Night: 11-22-09

QMJHL

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3 @ Moncton Wildcats 2
D Mark Barberio, Q: 0-1-1, +1, 0 PIM, 2 SOG
Season Totals: 22 GP, 2-13-15, +4, 22 PIM

Moncton put themselves in a 3-0 hole and could never recover. Former Lightning prospect Michael Ward finished his season with Cape Breton last season after a trade from Lewiston. He was not offered a contract by Tampa Bay, but signed with Vancouver. The Canucks re-assigned him to Cape Breton, where as a co-captain he has 15 assists (0 goals) in 17 games so far this year. He had 17 points in 30 games with the Eagles after the trade last year; 17 in 35 with Lewiston.

OHL

RW Kyle DeCoste, BEL: 0-0-0, -2, 2 PIM (tripping)
Season Totals: 21 GP, 4-4-8, E, 22 PIM

DeCoste earned his first two penalty minutes as a Bull.

Erie Otters 2 @ Owen Sound Attack 3
G Jaroslav Janus, ERIE: Did not play.
Season Totals: 6 GP, 3-2-1-0, 3.00 GAA, .915 sv%
With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%

Erie is on a 0-2-2-0 streak. Janus got the night off.

Guelph Storm 3 @ Windsor Spitfires 11
C Richard Panik, WSR: 0-0-0, -2, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 25 GP, 6-8-14, +11, 8 PIM

This is confusing. Panik was coming off a two goal game, his team scored 11, had six even strength goals, and somehow Panik goes without a point and has a team-worst minus-two rating.

Kitchener Rangers 3 @ Ottawa 67’s 6
LW Matais Sointu, OTT: Did not play.
Season Totals: 21 GP, 3-7-10, +7, 6 PIM

Erie Otters 1 @ Owen Sound Attack 3
G Jaroslav Janus, ERIE: Loss, 32 saves on 34 shots, *Third Star*
Season Totals: 6 GP, 3-2-1-0, 3.00 GAA, .915 sv%
With Norfolk (AHL): 2 GP, 0-2-0, 1.52 GAA, .939 sv%

Janus lost his third in a row (one in OT), but earned Third Star for the game. The Attack hit an empty net to give the game its final score.
