Zador vs. Janus ... Ashton extends streak ... Sointu his first multi-point game ... and more.

CHL Game Night: 11-11-09

OHL

Oshawa Generals 2 @ Belleville Bulls 1 (SO)
G Michael Zador, OSH: Win, 23 saves on 24 shots
Season Totals: 15 GP, 7-7-1-0, 3.48 GAA, .893 sv%, 1 SO
RW Kyle DeCoste, BEL: Did not play.
Season Totals: 16 GP, 3-3-6, +1, 20 PIM
With Bulls: 3 GP, 1-2-3, +3, 0 PIM
With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM

Zador broke a personal seven game losing streak, though he was named a game star in his last appearance. Hopefully this sparks him on another win streak. The lone goal against him was kind of a fluke as he had the puck covered in a goal-mouth scramble, but no whistle was blown. He raised his blocker off the ice to see if the puck was under it, which it was, and a Bull poked it home. It looked like the ref should have blown the whistle (see Bulls highlights below). Zador stopped four of five shooters to secure the shootout win. No word yet why DeCoste missed the game.

Peterborough Petes 4 @ Belleville Bulls 3 (SO)
RW Kyle DeCoste, BEL: 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM
Season Totals: 14 GP, 3-1-4, -1, 20 PIM
With Bulls: 1 GP, 1-0-1, +1, 0 PIM
With SSM: 13 GP, 2-1-3, -2, 20 PIM

DeCoste scored the game's opening goal on the power play in his first game as a Bull, but Belleville couldn’t hang on to 2-0 and 3-2 leads and get a win. The Bulls lost the shootout 2-0 and now stand at 6-11-1-1 on the year, two points ahead of Ottawa for fourth in the East Division. DeCoste, who scored when he banged home a rebound off his own shot, now has a two game goal streak and three game point streak.

Barrie Colts 6 @ Owen Sound Attack 1
LW/C Alex Hutchings, BAR: 1-0-1, E, 2 PIM (tripping)
Season Totals: 18 GP, 9-10-19, +6, 10 PIM

WHL

Everett Silvertips 2 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 3
RW Carter Ashton, LET: 0-2-2, +1, 0 PIM, *Third Star*
Season Totals: 16 GP, 9-11-20, -4, 28 PIM

Ashton (pictured) extended his point streak to five games with two primary assists Wednesday night. He has 10 points in those five games, but surprisingly for him, just two goals. He’s already nearing his career high for assists in a season, set last year at 20. He also had 30 goals and 50 points in 70 games last year.

Soo Trades DeCoste to Bulls

According to the Belleville Bulls Hockey Club (OHL), the Bulls have acquired Lightning prospect Kyle DeCoste from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for a 2011 conditional seventh round draft choice.

This is the second time in two seasons DeCoste has been traded. Last year the center/winger split the season between Brampton and the Soo, scoring 15 times while contributing 13 assists and 76 penalty minutes.

He has recorded two goals and three points along with 20 penalty minutes in 13 games played so far with the Greyhounds in this, his fourth OHL season.

DeCoste, who has a goal and an assist in his last two games, was taken by the Lightning in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

WHL

Seattle Thunderbirds 4 @ Lethbridge Hurricanes 3
RW Carter Ashton, LET: 0-1-1, -1, 0 PIM
Season totals: 15 GP, 9-6-15, -7, 24 PIM

Ashton extended his point streak to three games, albeit in a bad loss to last place Seattle. Lethbridge found themselves down 4-1 entering the third period, but despite a 15-2 shot advantage in the period couldn’t come all the way back.

CHL Game Night: 10/28

OHL

Sudbury Wolves 2 @ Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 3
RW Kyle DeCoste, SSM: 0-0-0, +1, 0 PIM
Season totals: 11 GP, 1-0-1, -2, 20 PIM

DeCoste remained in the lineup for two straight games, but failed to manage a point for the Soo in their win against rival Sudbury. SSM sits in second in the West Division with a 9-6-0-1 record, six points behind division leader Windsor. They are 3-6-0-1 in their last 10 games.

WHL Note: Carter Ashton and Lethbridge received some good news this week when the Anaheim Ducks returned defenseman Luca Sbisa to the junior club. Lethbridge recently climbed out of the Central Division cellar, but has a lackluster 5-9-2-0 record thus far.

Panik has registered an assist in two straight games.

Saginaw Spirit 5 @ Ottawa 67’s 2
LW Matais Sointu, OTT: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM

Sarnia Sting 6 @ Oshawa Generals 2
G Michael Zador, OSH: Loss, 26 saves on 32 shots
Season: 10 GP, 6-3-1-0, 3.19 GAA, .897 sv%, 1 SO

Season totals: 14 GP, 7-9-16, +6, 4 PIM

Hutchings’ assist came on the power play.

WHL Note: Last spring the Lightning chose not to sign Edmonton Oil Kings goalie Torrie Jung. The prospect was coming off a good season and an impressive showing against No.1 seed Calgary in the playoffs when the decision was made. This season, Jung returned to Edmonton as an overager. He's currently 3-7-0-2 with a 3.30 GAA, .904 save percentage, and a shutout. Edmonton is 6-8-0-2 on the year.

CHL Game Night: 10/22

Note: Lightning prospect defenseman Mark Barberio has been named to Team QMJHL for the 2009 Subway Super Series vs. Team Russia. This will be Barberio's first appearance in the annual all-star event.
