AHL Game Night: 10/16 Admirals at Crunch

Geez. So the Ads finally put together some goal support and they allow five into the back of their net.

SYR-5

Dustin Tokarski allowed 5 goals on 36 shots for the loss. If I'm not mistaken, it's the first time this season an Admirals goaltender has walked out of an arena with a sub-.900 save percentage for a game.

Ryan Craig was named the game's second star. He now has points in three straight games and 4 points in 5 games for the season. Norfolk has three assistant captains, officially, but unofficially I think we all know who the "C" is for the Admirals. That guy.

Norfolk was outshot 36-26 in the game and 25-12 in the final two periods. Mark Parrish netted his first two points as an Admiral in the game. Big Matt Smaby was an injury scratch after getting run in the game against Albany. From the category of things I would've never in a million years believed: Matt Lashoff has 0 points and is -4 after 5 games. He did a good job of sticking up for his pairing partner against the River Rats, but that's the guy Norfolk desperately needs to play well if they're going to be competitive. Remember when Jared Aulin was semi in the Lightning organization with Springfield and couldn't throw a puck in the ocean off of a pier? Now he scores the GWG against the Baby Bolts. Bah!

Dustin Tokarski allowed 3 goals on 32 shots for the loss in his professional debut. That's a tough spot to put a pure rookie in: on the road at the defending champs' banner raising ceremony.

AHL Preseason Game Day: 9/27 Admirals at Bears

A couple of Admirals tryouts are looking like serious contenders to make the team.

NOR-3
HER-4 (OT)

Dustin Tokarski allowed 2 goals on 13 shots before giving way to Jaroslav Janus midway through the game. Janus allowed 2 goals on 17 shots for the overtime loss, and now the Lightning will need to make a decision whether to sign the young Slovak to an entry-level deal or send him back to Erie of the OHL for one more season.

Juraj Simek and tryouts Matt Dias and Tommy Goebel scored the Admirals' goals. Mitch Fadden, Kevin Quick, Ty Wishart (twice), and Chris Lawrence added assists.

Norfolk was outshot 30-27 in the game.

Tommy Goebel has been the story so far in Admirals camp among the tryouts. The diminutive Parma, Ohio native is entering his second year of pro hockey after splitting last season between Wheeling of the ECHL (42 points in 35 games) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL (4 goals and 12 points in 25 games). Goebel played four years in the CCHA split between Michigan State and Ohio State, amassing 54 goals and 115 points in 147 games. Goebel could add more speed to an Admirals lineup that was one of the slowest in the AHL over the past two seasons.

Matt Dias is trying to earn a pro contract after four years with Sudbury of the OHL. Last season Dias had 31 goals and 66 points in 68 games.
