Seattle got back into the series when David Richard scored on the T-Birds’ 14th shot of overtime to narrow Kelowna’s series lead to 2 games to 1. Seattle made a change in net that could be permanent as Jacob DeSerres stopped 30 shots for the win. Kristofer Westblom stopped 37 for Kelowna while both Lightning drafted goaltenders watched from the bench.

Brandon scored early in the third to make it a 4-3 game but couldn’t come all the way back. Both of Fadden’s assists came on the power play. He’s been 2nd Star in both games so far. Game 3 is Tuesday in Brandon.

Kelowna will return home Monday for Game 3 with a commanding lead in the series and home ice advantage. Kristofer Westblom has played well as Kelowna’s No.1 with a 1.50 GAA and a .943 save percentage in two games. Five of Kelowna’s six goals in the series have come on the power play. The game winning goal Saturday was scored when a centering pass deflected off a Seattle skate and behind Helenius.

After trailing 1-0 mid-way through the third period, Dwight King and Zach Boychuk scored on back-to-back power plays within a minute of each other to give Lethbridge the win.

One of the two Lightning property goaltenders in this series got the start for their respective teams, but Helenius and Seattle couldn’t hold a 2-1 lead and dropped Game 1. Brady Leavold (undrafted) scored the GTG and GWG for Kelowna. His GTG came with 14 seconds left in the second period.

Jung took a shutout into the second half of the third period, but Spokane would score two goals, including the winner with just over 2 minutes to go in the game. Jung has not won in 5 straight starts and has lost 7 of 8 since a personal 5 game win streak in early January.

Brotherly Love: Drayson Bowman of Spokane, who scored the game winning goal, fought his brother, Collin Bowman of Kelowna, early in the third period.

WHL Playoff Update: It appears all Lightning WHL prospects will be in the playoffs with the exception of Dana Tyrell of Prince George. Kelowna (Jung) and Lethbridge (Fadden) may be the only teams with a Lightning prospect to host a first round series, however.

Jung Named ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League announced yesterday that Lightning prospect Torrie Jung of the Kelowna Rockets is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting three wins with a 1.00 goals against average and .960 save percentage in three games last week.

The 18-year-old native of Nanaimo, BC made 33 saves in a 4-1 win over the Chilliwack Bruins on New Year’s Eve and followed up with 17 saves in a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday. He finished the week with 22 saves in a 6-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday. Jung improved to 8-5-0-3 on the season with a 2.45 goals against average and .902 save percentage in 18 games.

Jung was taken in the seventh round (183rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Lightning.
