CHL Game Night 10/17: Helenius Comes Back to Earth

G Riku Helenius, SEA: Loss, 14 saves on 17 shots, Pulled in first period.
Helenius, the WHL goaltending leader in GAA and Save Percentage entering the game, was pulled just after the 15 minute mark of the first period with the T-Birds down 3-0. Jacob DeSerres came in and stopped 30 of 33 shots in relief as Chilliwack peppered Seattle with 50 shots. The Bruins, who are 7-1-1-1 in their second year of existence, held 19-4 and 36-9 shots-on-goal advantages after the first and second periods. The Thunderbirds managed just 15 shots in the fight-filled game.

Fadden had a rare scoreless game. He had minor penalties for holding and roughing. The 'Canes have lost four in a row.

A quiet night for Tyrell on the stat sheet, but that’s 3 wins in 4 games for the Cougars on their eastern road trip so far. They began the trip with a 1-6-0-0 record.

The Cougars have won 2 of 3 on their road trip so far. Tyrell's goal came on the power play.

C Mitch Fadden, LET: 0-1-1, -1, 12 PIM
Fadden had a 10 minute misconduct tacked on to a slashing minor early in the first period. The Broncos scored on the ensuing 2 minute power play.

One night after Helenius earned Second Star honors, he gets the First Star for Seattle against Kamloops.
Kelowna Rockets 1 @ Spokane Chiefs 2
G Torrie Jung, KEL: Loss, 25 saves on 27 shots, *Third Star*
Even after a great week from Kristofer Westblom and no Sunday game, Jung got the start against the (pre-game) 5-1-1-1 Chiefs and nearly pulled off a win while earning Third Star honors. Jung had good numbers against the Chiefs last season.

Mitch Fadden notched his fourth multi-point game of the year as Lethbridge dominated the Raiders in shots-on-goal, 28-9. Despite disparity in shots, it took Fadden’s power play goal at the 15:28 mark of the third period to break a 2-2 tie. The ‘Canes added an empty netter in the final minute to give the game its final score. Fadden is now tied for second in the league in goals (6) and third in points (11).
Calgary Hitmen 5 @ Prince George Cougars 3
C/W Dana Tyrell, PG: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
The Hitmen are now 8-1-0-0 on the year after breaking open a close game in the second period and defeating the 1-6-0-0 Cougars in Prince George, 5-3.

After a five game point streak to start the season, Fadden has gone two games with no points. He was slated to move off of a line with 06-07 91-point scorer Zach Boychuk and onto a line with Yashar Farmanara, who came to Lethbridge with Fadden from Seattle two seasons ago. Boychuk and Fadden both have 9 points this year.
Everett Silvertips 5 @ Portland Winter Hawks 3

Everett and Portland traded road wins to start the weekend. Crowley had minor and double-minor penalties for roughing.

The Cougars got revenge on the Americans by winning the second of a back-to-back set in Prince George. The victory was their first of the year after four losses. Tyrell has six points (two goals) in three games since returning from the Norfolk Admirals' AHL camp.
Spokane Chiefs 0 @ Everett Silvertips 4

Everett won their first game of the season, and like Prince George, the win came after four losses. Crowley did not play as he was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan due to a death in the family. The Tips released one of their six overagers yesterday, but that still leaves five fighting for three allowed spots. Crowley is one of those five remaining.

Camp Norfolk: Team White Defeats Team Blue 6-4; Admirals Trim Roster
