CHL Game Night 1/18: The Chris Lawrence Show

Chris Lawrence had 2 goals and an assist Thursday night to lead the Mississauga IceDogs to a 5-1 road win over Toronto St. Mike's. Lawrence was also plus-2 and had 6 PIM. One of his goals was the game winner and the other was a power play marker. Anyone who had him in their stat-category-based OHL fantasy hockey league is probably patting themselves on the back for that performance. Lawrence was named the game's first star.

"The coaches have emphasized that I've got to drive the net more," Lawrence told the Mississauga News. "And if you work hard, the goals will come."

"When he's going to the net as hard as he did tonight, not too many people can handle him at this level," Coach Mike Kelly said of Lawrence's performance.

Note: This was Mississauga's last game in the old Toronto rink, St. Michael's College Arena, which has seen the likes of Red Kelly, Tim Horton, and Frank Mahovlich come through on their way to the pros. The Mississauga News reports the current Toronto club will likely play in Mississauga's Hershey Centre next year after the IceDogs move to Niagara Falls.

CHL Game Night: 1/16

Vladimir Mihalik finally returned to the Prince George lineup and helped the Cougars to a 3-2 win over Kelowna Tuesday night. Mihalik was plus-1 for the game with two penalty minutes.

Also, while Dane Crowley and Everett were not in action Tuesday, Crowley is in the news in Washington as the Silvertips are counting on his addition to help them to a Memorial Cup appearance. Two articles on Crowley were released recently:

The Seattle Times: Memorial Cup possibility makes trade a lot easier

Everett Herald: Crowley a good fit for Silvertips

AHL Game Day 1/15: Monarchs and Falcons

Under .500.

MAN-5
SPR-2

Karri Ramo started the game and was in net until the 9:50 mark of the second period when he gave way to Jonathan Boutin for the final 10:10 of the period before returning for the third period. Boutin ended up taking the loss allowing a pair of power play goals on 3 shots. Ramo stopped 16 of 18 shots faced in his portion of the game. No word on if Ramo suffered any minor injury as of yet. Randy Rowe and David Spina had the Falcons' goals with assists going to Dan Cavanaugh, Mitch Fritz, Eric Healey and Daniel Corso. The Falcons did manage to outshoot Manchester 33-25 in the game buy allowed the Monarchs to go 3-for-5 on the power play giving up 3 PP goals in the span of 5 minutes in the second period to lose the game.

The Falcons drop to 1 game under .500 and are now in last place in the Atlantic Division. That's the bad news. The good news is they're only 2 points out of 4th place which represents the final playoff spot, so if Norm Milley and/or Justin Keller can get back in the lineup posthaste and the Falcons can find a way out of this tailspin, they're not sunk yet.
