Victoria one win from moving on ... Barberio in the running for Top Defenseman ... Jung and Tokarski give their teams much-needed victories ... and of course, a Yogi Svejkovsky sighting.
So, this team has some pride after all? Or, at the very least, some fear of Rick Tocchet?
Karri Ramo allowed 3 goals on 27 shots for the overtime loss. More good than bad. He made THE save all alone with an Ottawa shooter late in the third period to get the Lightning into the OT session, but he's still struggling with his rebound control, which cost the team the winning goal. I don't think anyone blamed him or McKenna for the debacle against McKenna, but it was definitely something worth monitoring going into this game. How would Ramo respond? And, he didn't respond badly.

Noah Welch had 4 penalty minutes and 2 hits in 15:41. That's a far better number in terms of ice time for Welch to be getting.
Matt Smaby was -1 with 2 shots, 4 hits, and 1 blocked shot in 23:35.
Paul Szczechura had 1 shot and 4 hits in 11:40. He made some dumb plays coming through the neutral zone, which is uncustomary for such a smart player.
Martins Karsums had 1 shot, 3 hits, and 2 blocked shots in 11:06. The guy is just less than the sum of his parts right now.
Richard Petiot had 2 penalty minutes, 3 shots, 1 hit, and 2 blocked shots in 18:13. He looks a step slow for the NHL level, but he's fairly servicable positionally and he looks like he competes. He may be a good spare part to keep around as a #8 type guy down in the minors.
Third period collapse.
Riku Helenius allowed 4 goals on 36 shots for the loss. He had a shutout through 40 minutes and ended up taking the "L."

BCHL Playoffs – Island Division Finals – Game 3
Victoria Grizzlies 3 @ Cowichan Valley Capitals 1
Victoria leads Best of 7 series 2-1
W Justin Courtnall, VIC: 0-0-0, 0 PIM
Playoff totals: 3 GP, 0-1-1, 6 PIM
Season totals: 60 GP, 22-41-63, 98 PIM
Top-seeded Victoria takes Game 3 on the Capitals’ home ice. Courtnall’s got a little work to do here in the post-season. Last season Courtnall was nearly a point-per-game player for Victoria, yet in the playoffs he only managed 5 points in 11 games. Justin is a team leader, and while he’d go through a wall for his teammates, they’re going to need him to contribute on the scoresheet, too. Courtnall has just 1 even strength goal (3 total) and 8 points in 26 career BCHL playoff games.
Saint John Sea Dogs 2 @ Moncton Wildcats 5
D Mark Barberio, MCT: 1-1-2, -1, 0 PIM, 3 SOG
Season totals: 64 GP, 14-29-43, +9, 42 PIM
Barberio had his second straight 2-point night and is heating up at the right time. Moncton is now 4 points up on Cape Breton for the Atlantic Division title and both teams have 2 games left, including one against each other to end the regular season.
Montreal Juniors 3 @ Rimouski Oceanic 6
W/C Luca Cunti, RIM: 0-0-0, E, 0 PIM, 1 SOG
Season totals: 54 GP, 14-24-38, +5, 30 PIM
Rimouski is back in the win column after having their 17 game win streak snapped against Drummondville this past weekend. Cunti took a stick to the face resulting in a Rimouski power play less than a minute into the game. Rimouski scored on that power play and never looked back. The Memorial Cup hosts are firmly in second in the Telus Eastern Division with 83 points, 16 fewer than first place Quebec and well ahead of Chicoutimi's 58.
Despite yet another power play goal by Johan Harju, Lulea fell apart in the third period in a 5-1 Game Three loss to Frolunda. Lulea is now down 2-1 in the opening round playoff series. Harju also set up a breakaway in the third period with his club down 3-1, but former NHLer Lubos Bartecko was unable to convert for Lulea. Defenseman Janne Niskala took a third period interference penalty in the match for Frolunda.
Harju is tied for the lead in playoff scoring with 5 points in 3 games, and tied for the league best in playoff goals with 4. All of Harju's goals have come with the man advantage.
