Good to the last shot.
Mike McKenna had a strong quality start allowing just 1 goal on 20 shots for his first win of the season.
NOR Bochenski, (4) (Konopka, Heward), 0:24 (PP)
MCH Purcell, (4) (Voynov), 7:13
NOR Konopka, (5) (Ward), 19:55
Zenon Konopka and McKenna were the game's first and second star. Jonathan Quick, of the Connecticut Quicks, got third star honors for Manchester in defeat.
Norfolk outshot Manchester 27-20 in the game largely on the strength of a lopsided 13-2 shot total in the third period that ended with Konopka scoring the game winner with 5 seconds left on a lucky bounce out from behind the net. When you outwork a team like that when the chips are down, more often than not you get those bounces.
The win moves the Ads to 5-6-4 on the season with a chance to move to .500 tomorrow afternoon. They currently sit 3 points behind Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which is fourth in the division. Now, unfortunately, Norfolk's opponent tomorrow afternoon is the Providence Bruins, who have historically taken great pleasure in torturing the young Bolts over the past few seasons. It's a tough spot being the third game in three nights, especially with the short turnaround, and it'll be key for Karri Ramo, who I would presume will get back in tomorrow, to really be sharp to get the team over.
