"We notified Mitch that he was put on unconditional waivers with the intent of terminating his contract, and after he cleared, we wrote our letter to notify him that we are doing just that,'' Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman told the Tribune. Fadden was arrested in British Columbia and charged with impaired driving, failing to provide a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and obstructing a peace officer.
He is in B.C. undergoing treatment for a blood clot he suffered while playing for ECHL Florida. Fadden was leading the ECHL in scoring when he was forced out of the lineup with the ailment.
Fadden, a 2007 fourth round pick of the Bolts, had character questions in his junior career with Seattle and Lethbridge, but appeared to have turned things around recently.
