The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed left wing Karl Stewart to a one-year, two-way contract, Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster announced.

Stewart, acquired in a trade with Chicago for Nikita Alexeev on February 27, skated in seven games with the Lightning in 2006-07, recording two shots and two penalty minutes. A 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Aurora, Ontario, Stewart, 24, appeared in 47 NHL games with Tampa Bay, Chicago and Pittsburgh last season, recording two goals, three assists and 47 penalty minutes.

“This will be a very important Training Camp for Karl Stewart,” Feaster said. “This will be his first Camp under John Tortorella and this is where opportunities and jobs are won or lost. He needs to come into Camp in great shape and with a very positive attitude and do the little things that are essential within our system. If he does that he will give himself a chance to stick with the big Club. If not, he provides us with outstanding depth in Norfolk and we know he is knocking on the door of being an NHL regular."

Being that it's a slow week for Lightning news...

The Albany Times Union reported yesterday that Eric Healey signed a free agent contract with the Colorado Avalanche on July 13, 2007. Healey was signed by the Lightning last summer and scored a career high 75 points (27 goals, 48 assists) enroute to leading Tampa's AHL affiliate in Springfield in goals, assists, and points. Healey finished the 2006-2007 AHL campaign as its 12th leading scorer.

The Detroit Free Press reported on Wednesday that the Red Wings signed forward Carl Corazzini to a one-year deal on July 16, 2007. Corazzini spent the last two seasons as an offensive fixture for the AHL's Norfolk Admirals, Tampa's new AHL affiliate. It was speculated by BoltProspects early in the off-season that Tampa might target Corrazzini as a possible signee for the 2007-2008 campaign, but the Lightning instead signed Craig MacDonald and Mathieu Darche as veteran offensive leaders for the Admirals.

Tampa Bay Lightning Assistant General Manager Claude Loiselle will serve as General Manager of the American Hockey League’s Norfolk Admirals, it was announced by Lightning Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenseman Mike Lundin to a two-year, entry level contract, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.

Lundin, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, spent the 2006-07 season with the University of Maine Black Bears. During his senior year he played in all 40 games and scored six goals with a total of 20 points. He tied for the team lead in goals by a defenseman and ranked second in points by defensemen. Lundin scored five goals on the power play and ranked first on the team among defensemen, tied for sixth overall. He set career highs for goals, points and power-play goals.

Despite an attempt by the Lightning to sign 2007 sixth round pick Johan Harju and bring him North America this summer, Bolt Prospects has learned that the forward has elected to stay in the Swedish Elite League for another year.

Harju, an overage draftee at 21 years of age, was thought to be a strong possibility for the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Norfolk. Harju had 12 goals, 10 assists and 22 points in 55 games for Lulea of the SEL last season. Lightning General Manager Jay Feaster said the forward was extended a contract offer, but Harju wants to stay in Sweden for at least one more year.
