Karpat took a commanding 3-0 lead in the second when former Bolt Jussi Jokinen [6] beat Lindback for a power play marker but with the score 4-1 early in the third, Max Talbot of the Philadelphia Flyers scored to spark an Ilves comeback that ultimately fell short when Antti Makila made it 5-3 Karpat in the final minute of play while Lindback was off for the extra-attacker. Ilves, still bringing up the SM-Liiga rear with 19 points, next faces Assat, which has 29 points to date and beat Ilves handily (6-1) the last time the two teams faced each other, on Friday.
