Oft-injured and underdeveloped prospect defenseman Andy Rogers [5] was traded by the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Toronto Maple Leafs today in a salary dump deal involving 4 players and a draft pick. Along with Rogers, Tampa sent injured goaltender Olaf Kolzig [6], injured defenseman Jamie Heward [7], and a 2009 4th round pick to the Maple Leafs for depth defenseman Richard Petiot [8].
Rogers, a former 1st round draft pick and former Bolt Prospects top-ranked prospect, has been injured each season of his three year rookie deal and has been unable to develop to his potential as a Top 4 NHL shutdown defenseman. The Lighting packaged three injured players and 4th round pick to Toronto for Petiot, a former 4th round pick of the Los Angeles Kings would was not re-qualified last summer and allowed to sign with Toronto as a unrestricted free agent.
