WHL
Seattle Thunderbirds 0 @ Prince George Cougars 2
C/W Dana Tyrell [14], PG: Did not play
Tyrell is in Lightning camp.
Spokane Chiefs 3 @ Portland Winter Hawks 0
G Dustin Tokarski [15], SPO: Win, 40 saves on 40 shots, Shutout, *First Star*
Portland was the league doormat last year, but outshot the defending league champs 40-25. Their problem was Tokarski, who stopped 40 shots for what should be the first of many goose eggs he puts up this year behind a staunch defensive team. Calgary pick Mitch Wahl had 3 assists for the Chiefs. The game was filled with fighting majors. Ah, the WHL.
Vancouver Giants 4 @ Everett Silvertips 0
C James Wright [16], VAN: 0-1-1, E, 0 PIM
In his first game since Traverse City, Wright had a power play assist for the Giants against the Dane Crowley [17]-less Silvertips. Crowley was not signed by the Bolts this summer and is ineligible to return to juniors. Wright had 13-23-36 in 60 games last year for Vancouver.
Kelowna Rockets 2 @ Tri-City Americans 5
G Torrie Jung [10], KEL: Did Not Play.
Jung played for Tampa Bay in Traverse City, but is still not with the Rockets. He is not slated for Norfolk camp. The Rockets traded for a 19 year-old goaltender yesterday after coming out of preseason camp with a rookie backup for Jung. However, this likely won’t be a tandem as the Rockets GM told Doyle Potenteau of the Kelowna Daily Courier: “Torrie’s on the (trade) wire, and we’ll see if there’s any interest in him.†Kelowna is expected to challenge Spokane for the league championship this year.
