Doug O'Brien, who came up to the Lightning with Paul Ranger and at one time was knocking at the NHLs door, has signed with Lukko Rauma in Finland.
O'Brien was traded to Anaheim for Joe Rullier at the trade deadline.
Ironically, Rullier also signed with Lukko Rauma this offseason.
O'Brien, who was a Memorial Cup All-Star with Gatineau the year after he was a sixth round pick (2003). O'Brien was the leading scorer at the 2004 Memorial Cup and was also named the QMJHL's top defenseman that year. The Newfoundland-native had 17 goals and 46 for 63 points in 66 games that in 03-04. He was also +52 and had 146 PIM.
With Springfield this past year he had 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 53 games. After the trade, he had 6 assists in 22 games with Portland.
