The Canadian Hockey League announced today that Kevin Beech of the Sudbury Wolves is the ADT CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting a 3-0-0-0 record along with a 1.33 goals against average and .956 save percentage in three starts last week.
Beech started the week by allowing one goal on 30 shots in a 4-1 win over the Brampton Battalion on December 15. The next night, the 20-year-old London native allowed one goal on 28 shots in a 5-1 win over the Peterborough Petes and he finished the week with goals on 32 shots in a 4-2 win over the Mississauga IceDogs on December 17. He improved his season record to 15-12-1-2 with a 3.08 goals against average and .900 save percentage in 32 games.
Marc Denis stopped 20 of 24 shots for the win. Filip Kuba and Vincent Lecavalier paced the Lightning with 1 goal and 2 assists in the game. Martin St. Louis also chipped in 2 goals with Nikita Alexeev scoring the other Lightning marker. Dan Boyle, Ryan Craig, Ruslan Fedotenko, Vaclav Prospal and Cory Sarich each chipped in a helper in the contest.
The win will keep the Lightning 2 points ahead of Florida, which is pounding Toronto tonight 7-1 and will move the team back to 2 games under .500. Baby steps, I suppose.

University of Maine defensemen Mike Lundin was named Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Lundin had an assist in Saturday night's 1-1 tie with Mercyhurst. The senior sent a shot through from the point on a powerplay in the second period that forward Billy Ryan tipped past Lakers goalie Jordan Wakefield. Lundin had four total shots in the game.

After being a runner-up several times already this season, this week's winner finally gets the gold...
