Avanagard Omsk defeated SKA St. Petersburg 3-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Nikita Alexeev was a scratch for the contest. Anton But recorded an assist as Yaroslavl squeaked past Novosibirsk to take a 1-0 lead in their opening round series. Vasily Koshechkin and Ladas Togliatti shut out Moscow Dynamo 3-0 in the opening game of their series. Dimitry Kazionov and Albert Vishnyakov were in the lineup for Dynamo. Alexei Glukhov had 2 penalty minutes in Khimik's 3-1 loss to Nizhnekamsk. Alexander Polushin was a scratch as Cherepovets waffled CSKA 5-0 to take a 1-0 series lead.

[b]QMJHL[/b] Stanislav Lascek had his 42nd and 43rd goals of the season and was named first star of the game in Chicoutimi's 4-1 win against high powered Quebec. [b]OHL[/b] Radek Smolenak scored a hat trick, his 40th, 41st and 42nd goals of the season, [i]and[/i] added two assists easily earning first star honors in Kingston's 6-4 win over Toronto. Kevin Beech stopped 27 of 29 shots faced but still saw his Sudbury Wolves fall 2-0 to Mississauga. Chris Lawrence was held scoreless in the game for the Ice Dogs. [b]WHL[/b] Justin Keller had his 48th and 49th goals of the season and two helpers as Kelowna beat Everett 6-2.

Zdenek Blatny angling for a callup? SPR-4 LOW-3 (SO) Gerald Coleman stopped 37 of 40 before stopping 4 of 5 in penalty shots for the victory. Zdenek Blatny stayed white hot scoring a goal and adding two assists as well as scoring to open the shootout session. He was named first star of the game. Prospect Mike Egener emerged from the doghouse to score the Falcons' third goal and Norm Milley and Doug O'Brien had helpers in the game. Morgan Cey is quietly setting the world on fire down in Johnstown. WHE-0 JHN-1 Morgan Cey stopped all 50 shots he faced to record the shutout. Thanks to Cey, Randy Rowe's first period power play goal on assists from Adam Henrich and JB Bittner was all Johnstown needed to get the W. The shutout was Cey's third of the season.
