Morgan Cey takes it on the chin for his first loss. JHN-3 WHE-7 CAVEAT: I don't entirely trust the box score ECHL.com has up on this one. Call me skeptical, but Jonathan Boutin is listed as a skater. Cey stopped just 25 of 32 shots faced in the loss. Rookie Radek Smolenak had two goals with veteran Randy Rowe chipping in the other Chiefs marker. PJ Atherton, John Adams, Doug Andress, Jean Desrochers, Gus Katsuras and Stanislav Lascek had individual helpers. Hockey's Future finally released their first organizational rankings for the year. Ordinarilly finishing 27th out of 30 teams would be a cause for concern, but given Hockey's Future's history of blindly ranking the Lightning dead last out of bias (their Online Editor is a Thrashers fan with an agenda) without doing a lick of research and then regurgitating the same organizational strengths and weaknesses Chad and I wrote when we were at HF some 3-4 years ago, finishing 27th might as well be 17th. That's why it's hard, from my perspective, to see rankings like these and not crack a big smirk.

Evgeny Artyukhin had an assist in garbage time in Yaroslavl's 5-3 loss to Omsk. Vasily Koshechkin's record moved to 6-3-4 on the year as Togliatti tied Dynamo 1-1. Albert Vishnyakov was scoreless in the match. Ufa pummelled Tver 5-1. Denis Kazionov was scoreless in the match. The younger Kazionov has yet to register a point in 18 games this season. Alexei Glukhov had an assist as Cherepovets beat Magnitogorsk 3-1. Anton But scored his 4th goal of the season in SKA's 4-3 loss to Chelyabinsk.

Marc Denis is 4-0-0 when the Lightning give him 3 or more goals of support. CAR-1 TB-5 Denis stopped 23 of 24 shots faced as the Lightning pasted the defending champs by the same score Carolina defeated the Lightning by two weeks ago. Revenge is sweet. Martin St. Louis had a second period natural hat trick to lead the way. Ruslan Fedotenko had a goal and an assist and Brad Richards, Filip Kuba and Paul Ranger each had a pair of assists. The other Lightning goal was scored by Vincent Lecavalier and individual helpers went to Cory Sarich and Dan Boyle. Scoring Summary 1st Period Tampa Bay 7:02, Ruslan Fedotenko 4 (Cory Sarich, Paul Ranger) 2nd Period Tampa Bay 10:46, Martin St. Louis 3 (power play) (Brad Richards, Filip Kuba) Tampa Bay 15:22, Martin St. Louis 4 (Filip Kuba, Brad Richards) Tampa Bay 17:03, Martin St. Louis 5 (Dan Boyle) 3rd Period Tampa Bay 4:20, Vincent Lecavalier 4 (power play) (Ruslan Fedotenko, Paul Ranger) Carolina 14:45, Eric Staal 6 (shorthanded) (unassisted) Game sheet from NHL.com.
