The decisions not to report by Desharnais and Czuy leave the Johnstown Chiefs with just 16 players on their initial camp roster according to ECHL.com. The roster includes Lightning prospect John Toffey who resurfaces after not appearing at either Lightning or Falcons camp earlier this fall. It also includes defenseman Andrew Martens who played 5 games with Greenville of the ECHL last season after leaving Bemidji State where he had 5 goals and 24 points in 37 games last year with 47 penalty minutes. The roster does not include defenseman Bryan Nathe who still needs to be signed after having his rights traded to the Chiefs earlier this week. Johnstown has 9 forwards, 5 defensemen and 2 goaltenders listed on the roster.

A Johnstown Tribune-Democrat report states that David Desharnais and Kelly Czuy have declined assignments to Johnstown by the Lightning and will play elsewhere this year (and probably beyond). Both were expected to sign contracts with either Johnstown or Springfield after their play in prospect camps this summer. Desharnais is returning to Chicoutimi of the QMJHL to play as an overager and Czuy curiously signed with Las Vegas of the ECHL. “I don’t know what to say about it,†Chiefs coach Frank Anzalone told the paper. “It’s disappointing because Tampa invested a lot of time, effort and probably money into both players. They were very loyal to them. At the end of the day, how can you turn your back? Some kids do. Some agents do. It’s something that probably would be better if you do this on Aug. 10, not Oct. 5.â€

According to the Tampa Tribune game report, Karri Ramo was recalled from Springfield yesterday because of work visa issues with Marc Denis. Nick Tarnasky was sent down to Springfield to make room for Ramo. Because Denis' papers came in just a few hours before the game, he was able to play and Ramo was not needed on the bench. Tarnasky and Ramo are expected to switch places again today.

Former Lightning draft pick Jean-Francois Soucy has signed with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League. Soucy spent time with Springfield and Johnstown in 2004-05 before being loaned out to San Diego and Phoenix of the ECHL last season. He was not retained by the Lightning this summer.
