Five Lightning prospects have survived and will be playing in Round 2 of their respective league’s playoffs this week. Here’s a look at what’s in store for each.
In the "Q," Stanislav Lascek and West Division second seed Chicoutimi Sagueneens, rested after sweeping Baie-Comeau in the opening round, will take on the Gatineau Olympiques. No.4 Gatineau defeated No.5 Drummondville 4-3 last night in Game 7 of their opening round series. Their reward is they get to face a team that can seemingly score with their visors blacked out.
The series begins Friday night in Chicoutimi.
Chicoutimi is still awaiting an opponent for the second round of the QMJHL playoffs.
Moose Jaw will advance advance in the WHL after defeating Brandon 5-0. The Warriors eliminate the Wheat Kings 4-2 in the series. Blair Jones had 1 assist and was +1 in the victory.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned defenseman Doug O'Brien to the Springfield Falcons. The move comes following O'Brien being a healthy scratch in the Lightning's last game, vs. the Florida Panthers. The transaction also means Timo Helbling has passed O'Brien on the organizational depth chart as Helbling will remain in Tampa until Pavel Kubina is healthy. Both O'Brien and Helbling will likely be on Tampa's playoff roster should the Lightning hold on to their spot in the standings.
O'Brien averaged 7 minutes and 43 seconds of ice time for the Bolts, most of which was recorded when both Dan Boyle, who returned last night, and Kubina were out of the lineup. He registered two shots on goal and an even rating.
Vitaly Yachmenev scored the overtime game winning goal today to help lead Omsk over Magnitogorsk 3-2 in game three of their semifinal series. Omsk now leads the best of five matchup 2-1. Nikita Alexeev dressed for the first time in the postseason for Avangard and was scoreless.
