Scouting Report

Scouting Comments:

"Smallish winger is not the biggest, fastest, or most skilled prospect, but is a very honest player who hustles his ass off and will never cheat you on effort. Shows a keen awareness all over the ice - knows linemates' position on ice without having to look. Has instant chemistry with any linemates. Makes effective moves in tight on the rush. Fast crossovers generate speed out of his cuts - gains separation easily. Pulls off the offensive zone cycle into the high slot to create opportunities. Despite his size, shows a willingness to drive into coverage. Hard to strip the puck off him - uses his body to protect it well. Effective on the PP and understands passing angles. Creatively switches hands on stick to protect the puck with driving wide. Strong backchecker comes down deep to get into passing lanes. Terrific work ethic in all three zones." - Red Line Report

European Champions Cup: Day One

Yesterday, in their opening match of the 2006 European Champions Cup, Moscow Dynamo defeated Slovakian club HC Slovan 3-1. Lightning prospect Albert Vishnyakov scored the game's opening goal in the match. Fellow prospect Dimitry Kazionov is also participating in the tournament.

Game Night 1/5: Lightning at Sabres

One step forward, two steps back... TB-1 BUF-3 Ryan Craig returned from injury and helped set up the lone Lightning goal with a strong forecheck to register the first assist of his NHL career. Craig played 16:48 and was +1. Paul Ranger was -1 in 15:37 of ice time with one shot on goal. He showed surprising strength on a second period hit on power forward Daniel Paille as his physical game continues to evolve. Evgeny Artyukhin played 8:12 with 1 shot on goal and the seemingly obligatory goaltender interference minor. WJC Game 13: Finland vs. USA

Finland defeated Team USA yesterday to win bronze in their final match of the U20 World Junior Championships. Tuukka Rask made 37 saves on 39 shots faced in the 4-2 win and was named the best goaltender of the tournament. Karri Ramo again played the role of backup. In the championship game, Team Canada crushed the Russians 5-0 to secure back-to-back WJC gold. Congratulations to Team Canada. Final Lightning Prospect Statistics: Finland Karri Ramo, 0-1-0, 6.21 GAA, .861 sv%

Update: Linkopings Rescheduled Match

The match that was originally scheduled between Linkopings and Sodertalje on November 25th was moved to December 20th. Fredrik Norrena defeated Sodertalje 6-3 making 30 saves on 33 shots faced. Norrena's updated season record stands at 16-7-4. Bolt Prospects apologizes for the tardiness of this update.

Linkopings Drops Key Game in OT

Linkopings went down to defeat today at the hands of a Bjorn Melin overtime game winning goal as HV 71 triumphed 1-0. Fredrik Norrena made 24 saves on 26 shots but dropped to 15-7-4 on the season. HV 71 currently leads the Elitserien table and widened their lead on third place Linkopings to 13 points.

Chicoutimi Still Riding High

For the fourth straight week the Chicoutimi Sangueneens are the #1 ranked team in the CHL according to the Bank of Montreal CHL Top 10 rankings. Chicoutimi remains atop the standings despite not having the services of stars Stanislav Lascek and Marek Zagrapan who spent the last week playing in the World Junior Championships in Vancouver for Team Slovakia. Both players should return to Chicoutimi this weekend as the Sangueneens continue their pursuit of the QMJHL title and a M

WJC Game 12: Switzwerland vs. Slovakia

Slovakia and Switzerland battled to a 3-3 tie in their final match of the relegation round. The Slovaks battled back from two Swiss 2 goal leads to tie the game thanks in part to goals by Lightning prospects Marek Bartanus and Stanislav Lascek. Bartanus finished +2 on the game while Lascek finished +1. Defenseman Vladamir Mihalik finished even with 2 shots on goal. Switzerland won the relegation round on goal differential by one goal. Final Lightning Prospect Statistics: Slovakia Stanislav Lascek, 6GP, 6-3-9, 8 PIM, (+3), 18 SOG Vladamir Mihalik, 6GP, 0-3-3, 8 PIM, (-1), 8 SOG Marek Bartanus, 5GP, 1-0-1, 4 PIM (-4), 4 SOG

Game Night 1/4: Falcons at River Rats

A depleted Falcons roster failed to halt a long losing streak. SPR-1 ALB-4 Coleman stopped 27 of 31 in the loss. Marek Kvapil scored Springfield's lone goal on an assist by David Spina. Game sheet from TheAHL.com.

WJC Game 11: Canada vs. Finland

Canada did what Sweden could not do and solved Tuukka Rask to defeat Finland 4-0 and move on to the gold medal match against the winner of tonight's USA vs. Russia matchup. Rask made 39 saves on 43 shots and, in total, faced 96 shots in the span of 24 hours. Finland will play the loser of the USA vs. Russia game Thursday in the bronze medal match.

Game Night 1/3: Lightning at Rangers

What a gritty, gutty performance by a tired and undermanned Tampa Bay Lightning led by John Grahame. TB-1 NYR-0 (OT) John Grahame made 36 saves for the shutout while Vaclav Prospal picked countryman Petr Prucha's pocket to deposit the game winning goal late in overtime. Prospal's thievery was made possible by an incredible diving poke check just moments earlier by Paul Ranger on a Michael Nylander breakaway attempt. Ranger played 15:46 of even hockey with two takeaways. Evgeny Artyukhin played a quiet 10:56 as the checking lines were limited in ice time due to newcomers Jim Campbell and Norm Milley joining the team. Ryan Craig was scratched again with a broken toe.
